The trail starts on the Keystone Loop Trail, following a paved path through a forest dominated by red maple and oak trees. After crossing a scenic boardwalk that spans a marshy area, the trail transitions to gravel as it continues through one of the most peaceful sections of the reservation.

The reward is one of the most unexpected scenic viewpoints in Northeast Ohio. From the small wooden overlook, a gap in the trees frames a panoramic view of the Cleveland skyline, with the city's skyscrapers rising above the forest canopy in the distance. Sunset is an especially beautiful time to visit, as the warm evening light illuminates downtown Cleveland and transforms the skyline into a brilliant display of color. It's a view that surprises even many longtime Northeast Ohio residents and is arguably one of the best skyline views from any hiking trail within 30 miles of downtown Cleveland.

After taking in the view, return to the main trail and continue along the remainder of the loop. The route winds through more rolling woodland, where dense forest, gentle hills, and the sounds of birds quickly replace the noise of nearby roads. The back half of the loop is often the quietest section of the hike, offering a surprisingly secluded experience despite being located in the middle of Parma.

Several intersecting trails branch off the loop during the latter portion of the hike, so downloading a trail map before your visit can make things easier. Before long, the trail returns to the parking area, ending one of the most rewarding short hikes in the Cleveland Metroparks. Whether you visit during the day or time your hike for sunset, Skyline Overlook delivers one of the finest views of the Cleveland skyline you'll find anywhere in Northeast Ohio. Don't sleep on this one. It's surprisingly beautiful.
